Move to declare Vivekananda House as heritage site

 SHILLONG: There is a move to declare the old House in Laban where Swami Vivekananda stayed during his April, 1901 visit as a heritage site.

The deputy speaker Sanbor Shullai made this announcement during the 39th cultural competition and Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Center (RKMVCC) at Quinton road on Saturday

He also said that the present site is not spacious and more land will be acquired so that it can be preserved as a heritage site in memory of Swami Vivekananda.

According to Shullai, a meeting was convened in this regard on Saturday evening which he presided.

While praising the RKMVCC for its inter cultural competitions, Shullai promised to pay Rs 50,000 every year towards for annual event.

Various prizes for recitation, elocution, essay writing, music, self composed poems, quiz and debate among others were presented. Pine Mount School emerged as overall winner, whereas St Edmund’s School became runner up.
