TURA: In a noble gesture, a teacher from Garo Hills who was a district awardee in this year’s Teachers’ Day celebrations has decided to donate a portion of his cash prize for the welfare of his fraternity.

Delivering his speech on receiving the district award at the official function in Tura Government Boys higher Secondary school, the headmaster of Burny Hill Secondary School, Lenin R Marak, expressed sadness over the condition of the teaching fraternity who had given their entire life of service for the welfare of the student community.

He said that is was a matter of extreme sadness to witness Adhoc school teachers go empty-handed when they attained the age of retirement since there are no government benefits provided to them.

In a first of its kind the district awardee announced that he would be donating a portion of his award money for the welfare of the Adhoc School Teachers’ Association.

Headmaster Lenin Marak said that a sum of five thousand rupees from his award would be given to the Adhoc association since it holds an annual meeting where Adhoc teachers are felicitated with cash rewards as a mark of respect and appreciation for their years of service.
