SHILLONG: After the signing of Cameroonian Charles Edoa fell through, Shillong Lajong FC have signed Uilliams Bomfin Souza Silva – the first Brazilian to play for the Reds – for the upcoming 2013-14 I-League season, it was announced by the club on Sunday.
The forward, who is the fourth foreigner in the squad, arrived in the city on Saturday.
Edoa’s deal was unsuccessful after complications in his visa and transfer applications arose and he now plays for a Saudi Arabian team.
The 24-year-old Uilliams joins the North East club from SC Sagamihara, a Japanese outfit.
Upon signing his SLFC contract, Uilliams said, “I look forward to my future with Shillong Lajong and I believe that I can make a real contribution to the team’s efforts to win trophies in the future.”
General Manager of Shillong Lajong, Habamutlang Lyngdoh said, “We are very pleased to have Uilliams with us this season as he is a player that can do very well for us.
“The Brazilian has got some wonderful talent with him having experienced professional football in Brazil as well as Japan.
“With his positive attributes and quality, we believe he can help the club achieve success this season.”
