International conference on Computer Science

SHILLONG: The first of its kind international conference in the State on the ‘Emerging trends and application of Computer Science’ (ICETACS-2013) organised by St Anthony’s College was held at Siloam, Barapani on Friday.

The programme aimed at highlighting the latest technological development in the field of Computer Science.

The three-day international conference which began will conclude on Saturday and computer experts from across the country and abroad are participating in the event.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Brian Subirana, visiting associate professor, MIT Sloan School of Management spoke at length about the advancement of technology. He said that ever since computer was introduced to mankind in 1960, many new improvements were introduced which has made life simpler.

According to him, the progress in technology is the result of inter-connection and interlink between different areas. “There is a need to develop a technical innovation that helps to create new business pelotons through software,” he added.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, NEHU vice chancellor Prof P Shukla said that computer technology is a vast topic which is linked in every activity performed by mankind.

The conference is being technically sponsored by IEEE Kolkata in collaboration with NEC, UGC, State Bank of India, NEEPCO and CSIR-India.
