Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation proposed

SHILLONG: Education Minister RC Laloo on Friday asserted that the department was mulling to implement the ‘Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)’ which would replace the annual examination system usually practiced in schools.

Addressing a gathering during the observation World Literacy Day celebration, Laloo who is also the Deputy Chief Minister said, “There will be no detention or in other words no examination would be required once the CCE is implemented,”

He pointed out that the education department has prepared a detail system of the CCE and comprehensive report for the CCE has been submitted to Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry as mandated by RTE. Meanwhile, the Education Minister also sounded confident that the State could achieve 100 percent literacy rate since the present literacy rate in the state stands 75.48 per cent even as he urged Education department, teachers, students and stakeholders to take the responsibility to ensure that the State achieved the targeted literacy rate.

During the function, the Minister also launched the ‘geographical information system (GIS)’ to map the different schools across the State in line with the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act to mark the celebration of the World Literacy Day.

The technology will help spot neighbourhood schools in any area besides disseminating other information of the schools. It will also help in demarcating neighbourhood schools and identifying different types of schools located in the neighbourhood boundary.

Education department principal secretary PS Thangkhiew, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, informed that the State government has sent over 17000 untrained teachers for distance learning training programme.

According to him, untrained teachers can be dismissed from their services if they are not trained as per the RTE Act. Similarly, if the schools which are funded under SSA fail to come under government it will be declare as private schools.
