TURA: The establishment of a new militant outfit in Garo Hills has been revealed following an encounter between security forces and cadres of the organization near Tura on Friday.
Police commandos of West Garo Hills District raided a hideout of the newly-created Garo outfit called A’chik Matgrik Liberation Front (AMLF) at Oragitok region under Rongram Police Outpost leading to a heavy exchange of fire.
The area falls on the Tura-Williamnagar route.
During the raid and subsequent exchange of fire two cadres of the new outfit, identified as Sengrim B Marak (20) resident of Mendipather in North Garo Hills and Baret K Sangma (26) hailing from Damas, were nabbed as they tried to flee during the exchange of fire.
The militant chief and self-styled commander in chief of the new militant organization, Francis Sangma, who happened to be present in the makeshift camp of the outfit, managed to escape before the hideout was overrun by the security personnel.
