Death toll in Manipur blast rises to nine

Imphal: Death toll in Manipur bomb blast rose to nine with a person succumbing to injuries late FRiday night, official sources said.

Sources on Saturday said eight persons were killed on the spot at Khoyathong area here in the second bomb explosion and 10 others sustained injuries by the splinters of the bomb.

In the first blast at Khurai area here two persons sustained injuries, sources said adding that both the bombs were IED (improvised explosive devices).

While no individual or group has claimed the second blast which killed nine labourers (all non-Manipuri persons) and injured ten persons, the first blast which injured two persons was claimed by banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), sources said.

The two persons who were injured in the first blast were local persons, sources said.

On June 27, two non-Manipuri persons were killed and four others sustained injuries when unidentified persons exploded a powerful bomb at Uripok area near here. (PTI)

Rs Four lakh each for families of blast victims

Imphal: Manipur government has decided to give Rs four lakh each to the next of kin of the nine persons killed in bomb blast, official sources said on Saturday.

The government would also give Rs 50,000 each to the injured persons, the sources said.

Eight persons–all non-Manipuris– were killed and 10 others seriously injured when a powerful bomb exploded at Nagamapal area in Imphal West district of Manipur last evening. One of the injured succumbed to injuries late Friday night.

The bomb was hurled at the camp of a non-Manipuri labourers by suspected militants, the sources said.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the blast. (PTI)
