Kohima: The Angami Public Organisation (APO) has clarified that no official letter was addressed to the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) nor had APO attended any of the meetings official and that those Angamis who attended, did so on their own individual capacity.

In a statement on Monday, APO president Keneingunyu Sekhose and General Secretary Vipopal Kintso said that the newspaper reported that a letter by APO was read out in the NTC meeting on Saturday wherein the former said it was not against formation of any organisation for Naga tribes of Nagaland.

The signatories also clarified that APO had on April 29, decided not to attend the April 30 meeting convened by the Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) at Dimapur in any official capacity. They also stated that at the subsequent NTC meeting in Kohima ‘purported to be hosted by APO’ it had also neither hosted nor attended the meeting ‘officially in the name of APO’.

They also pointed out that the APO and four of its units and frontal organizations, had on August 23, discussed the NTC issue and reaffirmed an earlier resolution on the need to forge relationships and pursue to strengthen the principles of brotherhood and fraternity amongst all Nagas, with various forums or organisations as well as individuals.

The August 23 meeting also endorsed the APO governing body to continue building better understanding and relationships with various Naga tribes or organisations and discourse on various pertinent issues including the issue of NTC ‘for the interest of all concerned’.

The APO said if formation of NTC was necessary, then there should be ‘serious official discussions at the level of the apex tribal organisations’.

The signatories said while it was imperative that issues and grievances be addressed in the right perspective, ‘we cannot afford to create any room for further misunderstanding and divide amongst the Naga people’. (UNI)
