TGC demands ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to wrong surgery victim

Agartala: Tripura Gramin Congress (TGC) has demanded compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim of wrong surgery in Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) last week while demanding resignation of Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty on Tuesday.

TGC and former Congress legislator Subal Bhowmik alleged that both health care and education in Tripura has now become building centric with the flow of central fund but the state govt was failed to provide quality doctors and teachers.

He said as many as 13 incidences of wrong treatment and death due to negligence of improper medication and carelessness on the part of the doctors and medical staff had been reported in various hospitals of Tripura over past six months.

“Unfortunately, govt did not take any exemplary action against any of the accused doctor or nurse rather indulged to make arrangement in administrative design to safeguard the culprits,” Bhowmik alleged.

He however, maintained that the left front govt had been setting up hospitals in every months with central fund but failed to provide the doctor that created havoc across the state and even a small treatment people had to go to outside.

They staged demonstration in front of health director Dr S R Debbarma’s office but allegedly he had left the place before the demonstrators reached.

However, TGC had submitted a memorandum demanding compensation to the Ratan Das (55) who had been fell out in the wrong surgery prey besides, immediate punishment to the accused surgeons – Dr N Chakma, Dr Niladri Sen and Soumen Debbarma.

Meanwhile, health minister Mr Chakraborty reiterated that enquiry set afoot for the fiasco at AGMC hospital where a patient with mouth tumour was operated in the abdomen instead.

Chakraborty said, “The enquiry committee is in action and if anybody or some are found liable behind this incident, there will be no compromise and strict action will be taken. Even if it was a mistake, I must say it was very serious one.”

The commissioner health and additional chief secretary K V Satyanarayana said the committee was asked to submit the finding today itself by recording the statement of the accused as well as to examining the hospital documents.

Police however, claimed all three accused surgeons – Dr N Chakma, Dr Niladri Sen and Soumen Debbarma were absconding. (UNI)
