SHILLONG: The chairman of the High Level Committee on Influx which favoured implementation of ILP Bindo M Lanong has said Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma should have had discussed the recommendations of the Committee with the agitating pressure groups before striking down their demand.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Thursday, Lanong said, “If the Chief Minister has not examined the recommendations then it seems that the constitution of the committee was a waste.”

He said that all members of the Committee including the representatives of the NGOs were selected by the Chief Minister himself.

“I was informed that the recommendations of the Committee were not discussed during his meetings with the NGOs over the issue of ILP,” Lanong said.

Lanong also recalled that the NGOs who were part of the Committee, unanimously favoured implementation of ILP in the State with most of the ministers and MLAs giving their consent barring a few.

It may be mentioned that Congress leaders – Dr RC Laloo, Prestone Tynsong and HDR Lyngdoh, the Chief Executive Members of KHADC, JHADC and GHADC, who are from Congress and former Congress legislator Lahkmen Rimbui apart from HSPDP MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit were part of the High Level Committee on Influx.

The MUA meeting on Wednesday analyzed the report of the High Level Committee on Influx before rejecting its recommendations.
