Nolikata Sec School dominate Ranikor Block tournament

Nativity Higher Sec School shine in Mawkyrwat

SHILLONG: Nolikata Secondary School almost locked out other teams in the Inter-School Tournament, Ranikor Block, held recently from September 17-18.

The school won all the team events in the five-discipline tournament – badminton, handball, kho-kho, kabaddi and volleyball – and also won the boys individual badminton event through Shiningstar Syiemlieh.

Surmila Hajong of Nolikata Sec School was pipped, however, by Dipika Hajong from St Thomas UPS, Pamdaba, in the girls final.

Shanbor Ransiej of Rodphad UPS, Nongkdait, finished runner-up in the boys badminton.

St Thomas UPS and Rodphat UPS shared the runners-up position in all the team events, except for girls volleyball, where two teams from Nolikata Sec School contested the final.

Meanwhile, in the Maw-kyrwat Block tournament held from September 19-21, Nativity Higher Sec School were not nearly as dominant as Nolikata, but still stood out from the other teams.

Nativity won the boys badminton team event and finished second in the girls team event. They also won the boys handball, girls kho-kho, boys kabaddi and swept the volleyball events.

The school finished second in girls badminton and boys kho-kho; the latter was won by JKRP Sec School, Mawkyrwat. JKRP were finalists in boys handball and girls kabaddi.

Sakwang Pres Sec School were victorious in one event – girls handball – with Phlo Rosy Dew Sec School, Nonglang, second.

Phlo Rosy Dew were also runners-up in girls kho-kho and boys kabaddi, but took the girls kabaddi title.

Mawranglang Sec School were twice unlucky, finishing second to Nativity Hr Sec in boys and girls volleyball.

Balang Mawlangwir Sec School, Mawkyrwat, won the girls badminton team title.

Badminton individual results: Boys singles winner – Pynkhlain Marwein (Nativity); runner-up – Maitkupar-lang Wanniang (BMSS).

Boys doubles winners – Maitkuparlang Wanniang & Wallamkupar Wanniang (BMSS); runners-up – Evandonald Iawphniaw & Banshailang Iawphniaw (Nativity).

Girls singles winner – Canny Suscy Iawphniaw (BMSS); runner-up – M Daphimo Shylla (Nativity).

Girls doubles winners – Canny Suscy Iawphniaw & Larimonsngewbha Wanniang (BMSS); runners-up – M Sadaphi Shylla & Amandapaleisha Kurbah (Nativity).
