SHILLONG: A city court on Monday granted bail to the Joint Director of State Agriculture department (Mechanical), Ropsil Lamare, who was arrested after he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting bribe. This was informed by Lamare’s counsel Nitin Khera, who, however, refused to divulge anything further. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem, however, contradicted Khera’s claim saying police did not receive any court order in connection with Lamare’s bail plea.
Lamare was arrested by police on August 28 for allegedly taking bribe from a Tura-based company that supplies power tillers to the State Agriculture Department. He was booked under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
