Itanagar: Union Minister Oscar Fernandes on Thursday said the Centre is committed towards development of North-Eastern region, particularly Arunachal Pradesh and priority has been attached on infrastructure development in strategic locations of the land-locked state.

“We are doing everything possible to improve the border roads of the state surrounded by three countries and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been entrusted with the responsibility to construct all strategic roads in the state,” the Road Transport and Highways Minister said.

The Union minister, immediately after arriving here, went to Sagalee in Papum Pare district and laid the foundation stone for the Nechiphu-Hoj (311 km, NH 229) stretch of the Trans-Arunachal Highway, besides inaugurating the Sagalee Don Bosco School and the Arch Bridge over Pare River.

He also laid the foundation stone of the 4-lane Itanagar-Gohpur section of the NH 52A and later in the evening attended the advocacy rally on HIV/AIDS at Indira Gandhi Park here.

Addressing a meeting at Sagalee, the Union minister urged the people to maintain the greenery along with infrastructural development. He said Arunachal Pradesh has huge potential in every sector, and assured cooperation from the Centre in sustainable progress of the state.

Fernandes appreciated the concerns raised by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki regarding development of road infrastructure in the state. Pointing that roads are the lifeline of the land-locked state, he expressed optimism that his ministry would extend support to the plans and visions of the state government.

“Your Chief Minister has placed certain genuine demands and I assure you all will be considered positively by my ministry and (the ministry) will support the state government in fulfilling them,” he said in response to a five-point memorandum submitted by the Chief Minister. (PTI)
