Hundreds participate in City marathon

SHILLONG: Over 350 students from various schools and colleges participated in the 10 km marathon organized by Kripa Foundation, Shillong on Saturday.

Titles “Run for a cause”, the marathon aimed at creating awareness among the youth on issues such as substance abuse and HIV infection.

The marathon started from the Polo Grounds with participants chanting Kripa’s slogan, “Together We Can.”

Project Director of Kripa Foundation, Bryan Jones said, “It’s always a great feeling when I see the youth taking an active role in improving the society. At times like these I feel hopeful that our nation does have a bright future, for I know our youth will not make the mistakes we have made.”

Former additional director, Ministry of Social Welfare, Shillong Loma Jyrwa who was also present on the occasion said, “I am proud to see so many youngsters here and it’s the duty of the youth to ensure that our society is continuously progressing and bettering itself.”

Members from Alcoholics Anonymous Foundation Group as well as Helping Hands Narcotics Anonymous Group, Shillong interacted with the students and share their experience with substance abuse.

The event ended with a performance by Shillong’s very own rock group Colors.
