SHILLONG: Coming clear on the teachers’ demands, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Education, Prof RC Laloo, on Monday said that the Government would be unable to chalk-out a solution plan to resolve the issues raised by JACATAM in three months’ time.
“Chief Secretary WMS Pariat had already indicated to the members of the teacher’s conglomeration (JACATAM) during the meeting (with them) that it would not be possible for the Government to comply with their demands within three month’s time,” Prof Laloo said, while replying to a supplementary question raised by Jemino Mawthoh (UDP) in the Assembly on Monday.
“Some of their demands are simple in nature. However, there are some demands like provincialisation of the service of teachers which would have to be thoroughly examined by the State Government,” Prof Laloo pointed out.
He, however, said that the Chief Secretary would again meet the teachers after three months to dwell on the status of their demands.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that Government has agreed to take up the implementation of the Contribution Provident Fund (CPF) for the non-government deficit LP schools for both government and non government deficit LP schools, and advanced increment for higher qualifications with effect from December 1, 2013.
He also informed that the Cabinet had increased the head teachers’ allowance by Rs 300 per month from December 1 this year.
Prof Laloo, however, said that the Education department was yet to implement the Assured Career Progression Scheme since it was yet to study the benefit of the scheme as recommended by the Fourth Pay Commission.
