Govt mulling creation of municipal councils

SHILLONG: The State Government is still examining the proposal of the Union Home Ministry for creation of municipal councils within the Scheduled Areas as per the proposed amendment of the Constitution.

Informing this in the Assembly on Monday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said, “The Government has received suggestions from the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) on the proposed amendment.”

Replying to a question raised by Paul Lyngdoh (UDP), the Chief Minister informed that different line departments of the Government are currently examining the suggestions of the three ADCs, after which the suggestions would be forwarded to the Centre.
