Agartala: A day before the Durga puja, it seems festivities gripped the entire Tripura with devotees coming out to have a glimpse of puja mandaps.

On the night of Shasti, beginning of Durga puja, devotees were seen in front of some big budget puja pandals amidst security blanket. As the sky is smiling, puja organizers expect more devotees to see puja mandaps this time.

This year Durga Puja will be celebrated at 2364 places in the entire state while 1223 pujas in urban and 1141 pujas in rural areas. Around 400 Pujas will be celebrated in Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) area and outskirts.

The state has always been witnessing theme based puja mandap. This time, the devastating flood in Kedernath tops the puja theme. Several puja organizers have decided to depict the devastation, one of most attractive pilgrimage tourist spot.

Amid inclement weather, puja organizers seem a little bit upset. However, Meteorology department predicts a clear sky during the puja days. “The sky is likely to remain clear from October 10 to 15 as per indication available with the Met”, said an official of the Met department.

As part of fool-proof security, police authority has already drawn up an elaborate plan to ensure peaceful celebration of puja. “The entire city has been divided into eight sectors and each sector will have senior police officer as the in-charge. Besides deployment of 1900 police/TSR in uniform, strong contingent of police including women would be engaged in law and order duty”, said SP (West) Bijoy Kumar Nag.

In addition, eight to ten CCTVs, adequate number of metal detectors and drop gates would be there as part of tight security measures.

As many as 14 watch towers would be established to kept close eye on the movement of suspected people to thwart any kind of untoward incident, he said.
