Arunachal angry about stapled visas

New Delhi: The shocked Arunachal Pradesh archers, who were barred from boarding a flight to China, lamented that political problems between the two countries have crushed their dreams of competing in the Youth World Championships.
Maselo Mihu and Sorang Yumi – both barely 15 – were to take part in the Championships at Wuxi in the eastern coastal Jiangsu province in China from October 13-21 but the immigration officials at the IGI Airport refused to clear them as they were issued stapled visa by the Chinese Embassy.
“I don’t know what is happening. We were on cloud nine that we would be taking part in the World Championships and this was to be the biggest event of my career. But my dreams now have come crashing down. I am helpless,” Yumi, who is yet to come out of the shock, said on Saturday.
“We are very young and cannot do anything. We hope this issue will be solved. What more can we say,” Yumi said. (PTI)

Two RPF militants arrested in Imphal

Imphal: Two militants of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) were arrested from Shingjamei area in Imphal West district of Manipur, police said on Saturday. Following reports of movement of armed insurgents in the area, police launched a search operation and arrested two militants of RPF, armed wing of People’s Liberation Army (PLA), on Friday. Both the militants were handed over to Imphal police station. (PTI)

Myanmar national kills friend’s wife

Aizawl: A Myanmarese national allegedly killed his friend’s wife by repeatedly stabbing her in the stomach at Khawmawi in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, police said on Saturday. Thawngchungbika (20), hailing from Halkha in Myanmar, stabbed Tialpungi (40) to death at around 10pm on Friday night, police said. The assailant was arrested on Saturday morning. Thawngchungbika and the victim’s husband were co-workers,but the motive behind the murder was not known, they said. (PTI)

Ibobi lambasts project disruption

IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh has said that disrupting the working of the national projects is against the ‘national interest’. The chief minister was pointing to the blast at the construction site of railing on September 29 and October 6 at Tunnel Number 8 in the Jiribam-Imphal rail-line where eleven persons were injured with some of them critically in both the incidents. The construction agency M/S Coastal Projects Ltd is engaging in the work. Ibobi Singh then assured the workers that adequate security will be provided soon. He also said those persons responsible for the attacks will not be spared. He then announced that Rs 50,000 will be given as assistance to the critically injured persons while the rest will be provided with Rs 10,000. (NNN)
