NONGSTOIN: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Nongtrai Sepngi, consisting of the Synjuk Rangbah Shnong Langdongdai area, Khasi Students Union, Western Nongtrai Youth Welfare Organisation, All Nongtrai Social Welfare Organisation, VDP and Seng Samla Shnong Poriu, on Tuesday urged the Government to set up a Police outpost at Langdongdai area.

JAC spokesperson Jodish Dkhar, also the president of the Seng Samla Shnong, told media persons that Langdongdai in West Khasi Hills fell under Riangdo Community & Rural Development Block, which is surrounded by East Garo Hills District of Meghalaya and Kamrup District of Assam.

He added that the place was used by cadres of various militant groups to pass through Meghalaya and Assam.

“Our area is unsafe as it has become a corridor for militants of different groups to venture into Assam and to enter Meghalaya.

“On behalf of the JAC, I have made a fervent appeal to the Meghalaya Government to secure our lives and our area before it gets too late,” Dkhar said.

He also added that as the coal mining season has just begun, it is necessary that the Government acts fast as it is during this mining season that the militants become active in the area.
