SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Police team defeated bottom club Mawlai 3-0 in a Shillong Premier League match, giving MLP their second victory in the ongoing competition.
More importantly for the police, they have now moved to sixth in the points table with six points, one place ahead of Pohkseh, who have four.
The last two teams at the end of the competition will be liable for relegation to the First Division.
Donbok Kymdeit, who scored in MLP’s earlier 2-1 victory over Pohkseh, scored twice against Mawlai – in the 10th and 29th minutes.
Raja B Shadap then added another goal in the 49th minute, to give MLP a convincing lead, which they were able to hold on to until the end of the match.
Mawlai have now gone seven straight games in the League without a win or even a draw.
Wednesday will see a battle between the third and fourth-placed teams, when Malki take on Nangkiew Irat at the JN Sports Complex at 3pm.
Malki have 11 points from six games, while Nangkiew have earned 10 from their six.
At the top of the table lie Rangdajied United, on 21 points from seven matches, while defending champions Royal Wahingdoh have 16 from seven.
