Kolkata: Riding on second half goals from CS Sabeeth and Katsumi Yusa, Mohun Bagan carved out a 2-1 victory over Salgaocar to fashion their maiden win in the current edition of the I-League here on Wednesday.
Darryl Duffy pulled one back for Salgaocar with a penalty in stoppage time.
As a consequence of their loss, Salgaocar have now dropped to the second spot in the league standings.
After an unproductive opening session, the deadlock was broken in the 54th minute when Devadas’ incisive through pass found Sabeeth free inside the box and the latter chipped into the net over rival goalkeeper Karanjit.
Mohun Bagan doubled their advantage 20 minutes later when Yusa slotted past Karanjit with a powerful right footer from just outside the box.
Meanwhile, in Bangalore, home team Bengaluru FC claimed top spot in the standings after defeating Dempo SC 3-1.
The hosts scored through Sean Rooney (11th and 61st minutes) and Siam Hangal (6th). (IANS)
