Laptops given to six students

SHILLONG: Appreciating the hard work and achievements of the students, the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong Pyllun on Thursday felicitated meritorious students of the locality and also distributed laptops to six students at a function held at the Don Bosco Youth Centre here.

The awardees are students who excelled in their SSLC examinations 2013 and among them, six were presented with a laptop each and certificate for achieving marks above 90 in various subjects. The others were presented with a memento, cash award and a certificate.

In his speech, the Rangbah Shnong of Laitumkhrah TP Nongrum said that the Dorbar had organised this function to encourage the younger generations to work hard and to aim high in life.

Chief guest, Urban Affairs Minister and local legislator, Ampareen Lyngdoh, lauded the efforts of the Dorbar for realizing the potentiality of the students and appreciating their work.

She urged the local head to imbibe amongst the citizens the need to transform a community from a tradition-driven to an education-driven one, while stating that learning new things never ends.

Calling upon the youth to finish what they started, the MLA said that the students should always learn how to dream big and think big and it is for them to strive forward to achieve their respective goals in life.

Meanwhile, commenting on the trend of education, Lyngdoh disagreed with the ideas of sending the students for tuitions. “Is it because we lack faith in the educational institutions and its teachings that we have to send our kids for tuitions?” she questioned the parents.
