SHILLONG: Rangdajied United cruised through to a 3-0 victory against 10-man Mawlai in their Shillong Premier League match at the JN Sports Complex, Polo, on Thursday.

Man-of-the-Match Hiralal Chetri’s brace along with an opening goal by winger Yohei Isawaki allowed Rangdajied’s second string side to scurry home with what was subsequently a comfortable win.

Rangdajied started off strongly with Isawaki scoring an early sixth minute goal before Chetri converted a penalty in the 30th minute following an opposition handball inside the penalty box.

Trailing by two goals, Mawlai then put up a spirited show towards the last 10 minutes or so of the first half, claiming the majority of ball possession while also coming painfully close to scoring on a few occasions.

However, the tight Rangdajied defence proved difficult to penetrate and at the lemon break, the scores read 2-0 for last year’s finalists.

Hiralal Chetri found his second goal of the match in the 66th minute when he headed in a wonderful swinging corner.

Mawlai were then left to play with just 10 men for the remaining twenty four minutes before suffering a 3-0 loss to this season’s leaders.

Friday’s SPL match will see defending champions Royal Wahingdoh play Meghalaya Police at 2:45pm at the JN Sports Complex.

3rd Div Super League

Meanwhile, Lawsohtun and Qualapaty played out a goalless draw in their Third Division Super League match on Thursday at Polo Grounds.

Nongrah and Mawkhar will lock horns in a Third Division match at 1pm at Polo Grounds on Friday.
