Prestone to head Govt committee
SHILLONG: The State government will soon hold ‘separate’ public consultations with different stakeholders on the draft “Meghalaya Regulation of Landlords and Verification of Tenants Bill” in the eleven districts of the state.
Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma will formally launch the consultation process at Yojana Bhavan auditorium on November 1.
The public consultations on the draft bill will be held with traditional institutions, teachers, academicians, civil society groups, intelligentsia, youth and students in order to ensure that all sections of the society are given with adequate opportunity to participate in the consultations, an official press statement said on Friday.
According to the statement, the State Government has constituted a Ministerial Committee under the leadership of Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong to coordinate the public consultation process.
The other members of the committee are Power Minister Clement R Marak, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Parliamentary Secretaries-Kennedy Khyriem, Justine Dkhar and Cherak W Momin, Government Chief Whip Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
Consultations will be held in all the eleven districts of the State on dates to be fixed by the respective deputy commissioners, the statement added.
