Aakansha Das Gupta ,a Class V student of St. Mary’s Montessori School describes her experience at the Thrills Fun Park.
How thrilling it was at Thrills Fun Park? Or! The first thing I remember as I look back is my two friend Hrishita and Durka enjoying the awesome view around the park sitting atop the giant wheel. The motor had been switched off and all the others girl had already come down. Suddenly our eyes spotted our two friends Sitting quietly up there and we burst into peals of laughter .Uncle Eugene Niangti who manages the park was immediately called for . The wheel was set in motion so that our friends could disembark.
It was 27th October 2013 Friday .I was up even before the alarm went off. Or did I actually sleep at all? Well even if I hadn’t I really wasn’t worried about sleep that morning. Just as my other friends too was excited and looking forward to our planned outing to Thrills Fun Park at Barapani. No books, no studies.
Two city buses of Shillong had been arranged to take us to the Park. We climbed into our respective buses and as we started moving, we had no desire to occupy the seat at all. We kept jumping singing and dancing all through the journey. I love talking and so chatted with my friends to my heart’s content. Neither our Headmistress Sr. Sunita Abraham (Who is otherwise a strict disciplinarian), nor our teachers accompanying us, scolded us for being unruly that day. After all ,it was a day to break all rules. It took us about one and a half hour to reach the park. By 10.45 a m we were at the gate and could hardly wait to go in.
The inside of the park was beautiful and just right to cheer us up. There were several riders including a giant wheel, Egyptian swing and toy train. Uncle Eugene Niangti was very kind to us. He made sure that we got to enjoy all the rides. There was also a see saw, slide and swing. A few girls got adventurous and tried the rock climbing too. My favourite is the swing and I spent maximum time on it. This swing In this park was quite different and two of us could sit on it together. As Adrita and I got into one swing, we were wild with joy.
Robert Louis stevenson’s lines came rushing to our lips-
“How do you like to go up in a swing
Up in the air so blue
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!”
We ran around sprightly and in no time our stomachs growled for food. Oh! I forget to mention that my mother too had taken the day off from work and joined us for the picnic .She had prepared pulao and egg curry for lunch . I enjoyed sharing the same with Sister Sunita Abraham and my teachers Miss Malavika , Miss Sunanda and Miss Evonce. My Friends, Pratyusha, Shivangi and Adrita also joined in.
After food there wasn’t much time left for our return, so we took a trip on the toy train, lazed around for a while and then it was time to leave, All of us clambered back into the bus, tired but feeling very happy and content. I reached home and having changed my dress and washed myself ,flopped into bed. Soon I was last in dreams and on the swing again ……….. “Up in the air I go flying again up in the air and down”.
