HILLONG: The three-night road blockade called by agitating pressure groups demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to regulate entry of outsiders into state began on Tuesday evening amid tight security.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the State after the blockade came into effect at 7pm on Tuesday.

The blockade affected the flow of traffic flow and the National Highway 40 and 44 wore a deserted look due to the blockade.

Night buses and commercial vehicles have to re-schedule their trips to the neighbouring states–Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and others due to this agitational programme.

Though there was a public protest against the bandh called by HNLC recently, there are no visible signs of protest from any quarter against the night road blockade and other form of agitations called by these pressure groups.

The agitating groups have made it clear that their agitations would continue till the government agrees to implement ILP in the state.

However, rejecting the demand to implement ILP, the state government reiterated the need for implementing the Meghalaya Landlords and Tenants Verification Bill and public consultation in this regard have been scheduled from November 1.
