SHILLONG: The Congress-led Khasi Hills United Democratic Alliance (KHUDA) in the KHADC suffered a jolt on Monday when three HSPDP MDCs withdrew their support from it.

The decision of three HSPDP MDCs — LG Nongsiej, KP Pangngiang and Enbin K Raswai — to withdraw support has come as a surprise since Pangngiang and Nongsiej had voted against the resolution on ILP during the Council’s Autumn session recently.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Nongsiej said they had taken a unanimous decision to withdraw support from KHUDA after the Parliamentary Party meeting of the party.

“We have submitted the official letter in this regard to both Pynshngaiñ N Syiem, and Fabian Lyngdoh, CEM and Chairman respectively,” he said.

Nongsiej also resigned as Executive Member in charge information technology even as Pangngiang has resigned as chairman of the Traditional and Usages Committee.

Nongsiej claimed that before the resolution on ILP was taken up in the House, they had asked the KHADC CEM to back the resolution.

“He (Syiem) initially agreed to support the resolution to urge the Government to implement of ILP. Taking a U-turn, he latter stressed on addressing the influx problem through the proposed Village Administration Bill,” the HSPDP MDC said. “We have now withdrew support on the ground that the KHADC CEM has not stood by his commitment to support the resolution,” Pangngiang said.
