New Delhi: Air services to and from the lone operational airport in the State at Umroi might be further streamlined with the Petroleum Ministry putting up a refuelling station at the airport.

This was informed to Shillong MP Vincent H Pala by Union Petroleum Minister M Veerapa Moily in a letter which was released by the Ministry on Friday.

Earlier, Pala had sent a letter to the Centre to put up a refuelling station, while arguing that it will save precious time for the aircraft which were otherwise flying back to Guwahati or other places for refuelling.

“Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has informed that one refuelling station has been positioned at Umroi Airport,” Moily’s letter to Pala said, adding, “They have applied for necessary permission to the Airports Authority of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for carrying out refuelling operations.”

Once they get the approvals they will start refuelling aircraft at Shillong Airport, the Minister assured.
