SHILLONG: UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh has been named as the UDP candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat.
Breaking the suspense, UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy on Friday announced that working president Paul Lyngdoh would contest the upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha election from the Shillong seat.
“The party is yet to make any formal announcement on Lyngdoh’s candidature as we are still engaged in consultation with other like-minded parties,” Dr Roy said, while speaking during the UDP East Khasi Hills district general council meeting here on Friday.
“The UDP is lucky to have a young and dynamic leader in the form of the working president contesting the upcoming MP election. I am confident that the party would have a better prospect to win the Shillong Parliamentary seat this time around,” Dr Roy said.
Earlier, the UDP State Election Committee had decided to hold consultations with all like-minded parties before announcing its candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat. The party has already decided to support the NPP candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
