SHILLONG: The pro-ILP NGOs while questioning the enrollment of the army personnel and dubious people into the State electoral rolls at Madanriting, have demanded the removal of Chief Electoral Officer Prashant Naik for playing with the sentiments of the local people.
“This kind of enrollment drive to enlist the dubious people is taking place from time to time. It is happening because the CEO who is heading the Election department has no concern about the interest of the indigenous people since he is not a local,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem said in a statement issued here on Friday.
According to Khyriem, even in 2012, the NGOs had held agitations against the decision of the Election department to set up the special counter.
“The setting up of this special counter has allowed many dubious people to enroll into the electoral rolls which are against the interest of the local people. It is the idea of Naik to set up these special counters to increase the population of the non-indigenous people in the State,” KSU president said.
He said that the present CEO should be removed immediately.
“We want a local man from the State to be appointed as the new CEO,” Khyriem said.
