SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Information Commission (SIC) on Monday asked the Public Information Officer of the PWD to provide details of the road construction at Laitkor Rngi to the RTI applicant Alaric Lyngdoh within fifteen days.

Chief Information Commissioner CD Kynjing held a hearing on Monday in the presence of the applicant, the Public Information Officer of the PWD and the Appellate Authority in his office chamber.

According to sources, the PIO and Appellate authority were pulled up by the CIC for not providing information to the RTI applicant in time.

On June 3 this year, Lyngdoh had filed an application before the Public Information Officer, PWD (Roads), who, however, did not respond to the application.

Lyngdoh filed another appeal before the first Appellate Authority who in turn did not give satisfactory reply to the applicant which forced him to file a second appeal before the Chief Information Commissioner and accordingly a hearing was held on Monday.

After Lyngdoh filed the RTI, he was asked to appear before the Dorbar on November 5. However, the applicant did not appear before the Dorbar sensing trouble.

The RTI applicant, further, lodged an FIR with the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang alleging that the Rangbah Shnong of Laitkor Rngi in the presence of Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit had decided decided to ostracize the RTI applicant and his family from the village for filing the RTI application with the Dorbar’s knowledge.

When contacted, Meghalaya State Information Commission Secretary SF Khongwir informed that both parties had appeared before the Commission and made their submission during the hearing on Monday.

He informed that the Commission after going through the details of both the submissions will pass a written order in three or four days.
