National Press Day to be observed

SHILLONG: The Shillong Press Club in collaboration with the Meghalaya Information and Public Relations will be organizing the ‘National Press Day’ on November 16.

This year’s theme as prescribed by the Press Council of India is “Role of the media in serving public interest”.

Meghalaya Speaker, AT Mondal will inaugurate the function at 11 am at the Shillong Club banquet hall followed by a training program for journalists (both field and desk) on enhancing writing skills to be followed by a writing competition for both print and broadcast.

Aloke Thakur from Journalism Mentor, Mumbai, a veteran journalist who at various times has reported, written columns, authored academic articles, anchored programmes, taught at university and colleges, and coached in news rooms, will be the resource person.

Editors and senior script writers will evaluate the copies and winners will be awarded with cash prizes for the best three pieces in both categories (Print & Broadcast).

The winners will be announced at the valedictory function at 6 pm at the same venue. Home Minister, Roshan Warjri will be the Chief Guest, legislator Paul Lyngdoh as Guest of Honour and Additional Chief Secretary PB Warjri will deliver a special address as Special Guest on the this year’s theme at the valedictory function.

All journalists both from the field as well as desk are expected to attend the training program and put their skills to the test.
