Two held on extortion charge

JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Police arrested two persons for allegedly extorting money from two persons while they were travelling in their vehicle from Borato to Jalaphet village in East and West Jaintia Hills on Thursday. Anotehr accused managed to escape.

According to Police, one Kamai Lipon of Khanduli along with his friend while coming from Barato proceeding toward Jalaphet in their vehicle (ML04-9814) was stopped near Pasyih, by a Maruti Car (ML05G4332) occupied by three persons.

The three occupants in the car demanded Rs. 50, 000 from them. A payment of Rs. 3000 however made.

The three accused persons have been identified as Shamlang Phawa and Shainlang Phawa both of Tuberkmai Shnong and Lucky Rymbai of Moolamanoh village in East Jaintia Hills.

Police arrested Shamlang and Lucky Rymbai while Shainlang Phawa escaped. Both the arrested person were forwarded to the court and they were remanded to Judicial custody.
