SBI staff arrested

JOWAI: Police on Sunday arrested one State Bank of India (SBI) staff Ripaya Jat from her residence at Khimusniang, Jowai for fraudulently withdrawing Rs 4 lakh from the account of Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) president Balen Thubru on November 12. The arrest was made on the basis of an FIR filed by JHTOA president daughter’s Yookani Passah on November 14. Rs 3.90 lakh was recovered from the possession of the accused, police adding that the remaining amount was already spent by her. The SBI staff had withdrawn the amount by forging the signature of Thubru from his account at SBI’s Lad Thalaboh branch.

Boy arrested: Meanwhile, police arrested a 17-year-old youth from Jowai for illegally collecting money on behalf of an orphanage in Shillong.

Police recovered Rs 2000 from his possession.
