Meghalaya situation in police meet agenda

NEW DELHI: The three-day annual conference of Directors General of Police/ Inspectors General of Police which will begin here on Thursday will deliberate on further consolidating the peace process in the North East besides discussing the current situation in Meghalaya, Manipur and parts of Assam.

According to official sources, the conference will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde while Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is slated to address it on the concluding day.

The Prime Minister will also release the Commemorative Stamp besides presenting the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to the awardees on the same day.

There will be a separate panel discussion on the Northeast situation.

Meghalaya DGP PJP Hanaman has already arrived here to take part in the three-day conference.

The conference would discuss ways and means to make “cutting edge level policing” resourceful, effective, professional and service oriented so that it inspires confidence among community.

The issue of cyber security would also be looked into during the three-day meet and suggestions would be made to address the various terror related activities.

Besides these, the conference would deliberate on ways to ensure that social media is not put to invidious use and try to come up with mechanisms to counter it.

Detailed discussion on ways to improve the generation of intelligence and its quick dissemination through the platform of Multi Agency Centre (MAC) and Subsidiary Multi Agency Centres(SMAC) will also take place.

Improving the functioning of state intelligence units would also be taken up for discussion during the meet.
