Four rapists from Tripura arrested in Chennai

Agartala: Tamil Nadu police has arrested four Tripura youths accused of raping a minor girl in South Tripura on November 1 last at Twaihar Chowng Kami of South Maharani under R K Pur police station in Gomati District.
Police said here on Sunday that all of the accused were arrested from Egmore areas of Chennai two days ago where they had been hiding almost for a month.
A Tripura police left for Chennai on Saturday to bring the accused youths back to the state on transit remand, said a senior official of Tripura police crime investigation branch adding that trial of the accused would be in the state.
The minor girl a student of Class VII of the village school was coming back home along two of her friends around late afternoon on November 1 last. The accused four tribal youths gang raped her and beaten up her two friends.
Acting on the complaints lodged by the victim family police had launched investigation into the crime and arrested one of the accused Swapan alias Arpan Jamatia about 15 days ago from a neighbouring locality.
During interrogation Swapan confessed police that the other perpetrators were hiding in Chennai and two of them had able to manage job in a private security agency.
Tripura police sought the help of its Tamil Nadu counterpart and Chennai police finally arrested Mangal Debbarma alias Bahar Jamatia who had provided shelter to absconding youths.
On the basis of the input of Mangal police arrested three others – Hridoy Jamatia, Surya Jamatia and Karnasadhan Jamita. (UNI)
