ICAR meet on integrated farming system

SHILLONG: A national group meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Integrated Farming System (IFS) got underway at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Agriculture and Food Processing, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh congratulated and appreciated the ICAR for organizing this group meeting on IFS, considering that farming system is the backbone of this region.

He also lauded the efforts of the ICAR Research Complex for improvement of the livelihood of the farmers of Meghalaya and other states of the region.

Dr AK Sikka (DDG, NRM) of ICAR pressed for recycling of farm wastes and adoption ) of novel ideas in farming system for sustainable agriculture.

Dr KM Bujarbaruah, Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, attended the function as the guest of honour and emphasized on the need for smart farming, for small and marginal farmers.

The newly established Central Laboratory facility was also inaugurated on the occasion which will benefit the line department of Agriculture and allied sectors for improving the research and developmental activities in Meghalaya.

During the two-day meeting, delegates from across India will discuss research achievements in relation to farming system.
