Kohima: Nagaland Chief minister Neiphiu Rio urged upon Nagas to inculcate work culture since any country which was lacking in it, remained poor.
Addressing the launch of North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) funded by the World Bank under the ministry of Department of North Eastern Region (DoNER) here as the Chief Guest Rio on Monday said though he welcomed the Food Security Bill that was passed by Parliament, he opined that job security should also be passed to enable every citizen of the country, an opportunity to work but not necessarily with the government only.
He advised the officials of the department to identify a suitable place and carefully choose the beneficiaries for successful implementation of NERLR in the state.
Rio said the project should be inclusive for the growth of the downtrodden and uplift of the underprivileged. He also stressed on transparency in accounting, reaching to the grassroots level and proper record keepings as important ways to achieve successful goals.
He pointed out that people who always sought the government subsidy for projects or schemes end up with failure on many occasions.
Guest of Honour Paban Singh Ghatowar, Union Minister of State DoNER said the Ministry was committed to work for the development of the region. He said NERLP in Nagaland would cover all villages of Peren and Tuensang districts to improve and provide substantial livelihood to the people. He advised the people of the area to choose what was best for producing and generating income. Ghatowar also suggested taking up piggery project in view of high demand instead of spending Crores of rupees on imports.
Earlier, C L John, Parliamentary Secretary Rural Development & SIRD delivered the welcome address. NERLP overview was shared by H K Hajong project Director NERLP while vote of thanks was proposed by Ringsanbo Zeliang state project coordinator NERLP. Five SHGs were awarded cash prize of Rs 40,000 each for successful implementation of their projects by Ghatowar. Host of Ministers, MLAs, SIRD staff, RD staff, other state officials and others attended the programme. (UNI)
