4 held in abduction case

SHILLONG: Police have arrested four persons for allegedly abducting a truck driver and two others and subsequently demanding Rs 80, 000 for their release. The miscreants on Wednesday intercepted a truck (AS01-DC-6578) carrying scrap items worth Rs. 2, 70,000 between Tyrsad and Weiloi They abducted the driver Jahangir Hussain and other occupants Kumar Jamatia and Monirul Islam. The miscreants later demanded Rs 80,000 from the owner of vehicle for their release. Police rescued the three persons along with the truck from Umkdait, Nongmynsong. During a late operation, police arrested four persons — Shemphang Marbaniang of Pohkseh, Dilip Bhattacharjee of Rynjah, Mukul Banarjee of Pohkseh and Dulit Diengdoh of Umkdait Nongmynsong in this connection. They have been remanded to five-day police custody.
