Assam Club to install Bhupen bust

Shillong:  The Assam Club has decided to install a bust of music icon of  Northeast Dr Bhupen Hazarika shortly. The decision to this effect was taken during a general meeting of the Club held recently. The  statue which will be installed inside the Club premises has been conceived and designed by noted sculptor Biren Singh. The statue has been prepared with contributions from public including Shillong MP Vincent H Pala, former MLA Manas Chaudhuri. Total cost of the statue, which has already been handed over to the Club authorities, came to Rs 1 lakh.
One of the heritage buildings of Shillong, Assam Club has been renovated recently.
Meanwhile, a new committee of the Club was constituted in the same meeting with Col (retd) Anjan Dutta as president. The new committee also includes Sunit Phukan, general secretary, Minaram Bora and Hasib Ahsan ( both vice presidents) among others. The new committee also has nine executive members.
