SHILLONG: The Meghalaya United Women’s Welfare Organisation (MUWWO) has accused the state Government of not paying any heed to the sorry affairs of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Shillong.
Meghalaya United Women’s Welfare Organisation (MUWWO) president Aruna Biswa on Thursday said the institute lacks neurosurgeon and modern equipment to deal with patients other than those suffering from mental illness.
She also alleged that the institute suffers from lack of manpower and the hospital is in dire straits.
“Despite assurances from the Government there is no initiative to improve the situation in the hospital,” she said, while urging the Government to adopt a resolution of improving the condition of the hospital in the upcoming year.
According to Biswa, no replacement has taken place in the hospital after some doctors retired from the institute, which is taking a heavy toll on the patients. She however, added that certain officers like M Shylla were doing their best for the hospital.
