SHILLONG: The Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Cherrapunjee organized a musical evening in the Vivekananda Centenary auditorium as part of the 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Swami Vivekananda in Sohra on Thursday.
The programme in Indian Classical music (vocal and instrumental) was inaugurated by Swami Achyuteshanandaji Maharaj, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong.
The evening began with an indigenous Khasi music performance by SNAP PAKA institution, Shillong led by Really Lyngskor.
The traditional Khasi musical instruments such as Duitara, Nakra, Ksingrit gave an ethnic touch to the musical event.
The maestros from the present world of Indian classical music such as Pandit Abhijit Banerjee in tabla, Apurba Lal Manna in Pakhawaj, Somnath Roy in ghatam, Ranjan De in Bangla Dhol and the sarod maestro Partho Sarothy ornamented the evening by entertaining the audience with the divine spell of classical music.
The musical programme, being the first of its kind in Meghalaya, enlightened the audience of Sohra, Shella and Shillong about the strength, depth, and rarity of Indian classical music.
The devotional songs in tune with the classical essence from Swami Kripakaranandaji Maharaj of Belur Math with Sanjib Parial in percussion and Premendu Ghosh in Tabla added flavor to the occasion.
Through the musical programme, the Ramkrishna Mission Ashram made an effort to pay a tribute to Swami Vivekananda who has been a perennial source of inspiration to one and all across the world.
