SHILLONG: Police shot a man, as he refused to surrender after murdering his wife with a dao in East Garo Hills. The man was rushed to Tura civil hospital after the initial treatment at Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
According police, on January 1 at around 2.30 pm, the accused  Howelson D. Sangma murdered his wife  Helen M. Sangma with a dao at Dawa Nengkatok village in East Garo Hills. Police rushed to the spot to arrest the accused but he refused to surrender.
Later, Additional SP along with Deputy SP (Headquarter)  also rushed to the spot and found the accused armed with a dao moving in a threatening manner to attack the police and local residents despite a warning shot fired by the police.
As he continued to defy the warning, he was shot and immediately shifted to Civil Hospital  Williamnagar from where he was referred to Tura Civil Hospital for treatment, police said.
