Theft case

  • On January 2 around 4.45 am, unknown miscreants broke into M/s Meghalaya Cold Centre at Tura Bazar (WGH) and stole forty-nine cell phones valued around Rs. 3,86,000 and cash Rs. 12,750.
  • On January 5 around 2 am, unknown miscreants stole five bags of betel nut from the shop of Bina Shalin Kharnongbet at Polo Bazar, Shillong. In this connection, police have arrested one boy (16) from Forest Colony, Shillong.
  • On January 4 at about 8.30 pm, two Bangladesh nationals – Md. Samon Mia and Prasant Hajong – were caught red-handed while stealing one motorcycle from the house of Jedinbirth N. Marak at Dabit Nalsa in South Garo Hills. Matter is under investigation.
  • On January 1 around 9.30 pm, unknown miscreants stole one motorcycle (ML-07A-6582) belonging to Bijoy Basumatary from Dobu Bazar in East Garo Hills. In this connection, police arrested one boy (18) and Jenuth G. Momin (19) and recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession.
  • On December 30, 2013 night, unknown miscreants stole one motorcycle (ML-08C-6934) belonging to Ranbir Prasad from District Council Shopping Complex, Tura Bazar in West Garo Hills.
  • On December 19, 2013 night, unknown miscreants stole household items from the residence of Deepak Hajong at Hawakhana, Tura in West Garo Hills during his absence.

Theft/ arson case

  • On the intervening night of January 4 and 5, unknown miscreants stole mobile phones and DVDs valued around Rs. 1,35,600 from the shop of Joy Modak at Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills and cash worth Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 1,300 respectively from the motor garages of Md. Sultanur Arman and Sultanur Arsad. Following this, the general public held a protest procession on January 5. During the procession, unknown miscreants pelted stones and damaged the window panes of the MeECL office. Police have registered cases for both the incidents.
  • On January 4 between 10 pm and midnight, unknown miscreants set on fire one Maruti car (AS-25B-5454) belonging to Lamberth S. Marak at Sangsanggre in West Garo Hills. The vehicle was partially damaged.

Assault case

  • On January 4 around 1.30 pm, unidentified miscreants assaulted Bakhiabor Iawbor (20) at Mawsiangei Shella in East Khasi Hills. The victim sustained injuries and was shifted to Civil Hospital, Shillong. Matter is under inquiry.
  • Phili Papiah lodged a complaint at Jowai PS that on January 2 at about 8.30 pm, one Kermioo Samati assaulted Tony Papiah and Sankini Papiah with sharp weapon at Nongjngi Khliehshnong village in West Jaintia Hills. The victims sustained injuries and were shifted to Civil Hospital, Shillong. Police have arrested the accused.

Threat case

Teibor Mynsong lodged a complaint at Jowai PS that on January 1, his father Speshon Myrboh threatened him and his family members with dire consequences at Umbluh village in West Jaintia Hills.

Unclaimed body

On January 5 at around 3.10 pm, the body of one Ramu Chettri was recovered from a public toilet near Rhino Museum, Rilbong, Shillong. Necessary formalities have been observed.
