Treilang win on penalties

SHILLONG: A penalty shootout in a second round match of the Meghalaya Open Football Championship turned into a marathon affair, but Treilang (Malki) eventually came through 11-10 against Bahlung FC (Lumparing).

The afternoon match, played at Malki Ground on Wednesday, ended 0-0 after regulation time, forcing the tiebreaker.

In the earlier game, Umkdait Combine FC emerged 1-0 winners over Young Boys FC (Mairang) thanks to an early goal by Banshngain Syiemlieh (fifth minute).

Two more matches have been scheduled for Thursday.

In the first, at 12 noon, Hynniewtrep Combine FC (Malki) will play Nongkhyriem (Nongthymmai).

Promising FC (Malki) will then go up against Sarong Laka Jong (Malki) at 2:00pm.
