Indians round off good day

Melbourne: India enjoyed a good day for the most part at the Australian Open on Saturday.

In women’s doubles, Sania Mirza and Cara Black, cruised to a 7-5, 6-1 win in the second round against Monica Niculescu and Klara Zakopalova.

Later, playing with Horia Tecau, she won her mixed doubles first round against Hao-Ching Chan and Robert Lindstedt 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-8.

Leander Paes and his partner Radek Stepanek recorded a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 win over Daniele Bracciali and Alexandr Dolgopolov to move to the third round.

Rohan Bopanna emerged victorious with partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, the pair beating Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.

Bopanna then won in the mixed doubles with Katarina Srebotnik, overwhelming Raquel Kops-Jones and Treat Huey 6-2, 6-3 in the mixed doubles first round.

Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Rajeev Ram were ousted after a 4-6, 6-7 (7) defeat against Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares. (PTI)
