Two kidnapped by suspected Kuki rebels untraceable, 4 freed
Imphal: Two persons who were kidnapped by suspected Kuki militants remained untraceable while four persons who were earlier kidnapped by suspected Kuki militants were released. Police said two workers were kidnapped by suspected Kuki militants from Kanglatongbi, Senapati district last night. Heavily armed men forcibly took away two workers from a work site beside the national highway. They were engaged in a road work. Both were identified as Maibam Tomba, 33 of Charangpat, Thoubal district and Thongam Shanta, 40 of Thoubal Athokpam Leikai. Police suspect that they were kidnapped to demand ransom. In another incident four persons who were kidnapped by Kuki militants were released last night somewhere at Koirengei, Imphal West. All the four persons were kidnapped from a work site from Singda, Senapati district. Sources said they were asked to pay Rs one crore. (UNI)
Five from Manipur die in Assam road mishap
Guwahati: At least five persons were killed in a road mishap near Baihata Chariali in Assam’s Kamrup (rural) district early Saturday. They were passengers of a mini bus plying from Siliguri to Manipur. The vehicle hit a bridge on NH-31 at Kolajal near Baihata Chariali, about 35 km from Guwahati. Early morning dense fog and failure to see the subways led to the mishap, police said after preliminary investigations. There were 15 passengers in the mini bus. (UNI)
Tripura man held for fake passport racket
Agartala: A man has been arrested for involvement in a fake passport racket, police said here on Saturday. “Maharashtra police arrested Mansoor Ahmed, 47, at the Mumbai airport Jan 5 with a fake passport while he was flying to Dubai. Ahmed told police that he is a Bangladeshi citizen and one Mushayed Ali, 49, in Agartala helped him to get the fake passport,” a Tripura police spokesman said. The spokesman said a team of Maharashtra police arrived here Friday and arrested Ali, who was subsequently presented before a court here for a transit remand. (IANS)
Nagaland constitutes 1st state-level disability forum
Kohima: Nagaland State Disability Forum (NSDF) was formed during a workshop held at Agency for Integral Development Action, Nagaland (AIDA), Dimapur from January 16 to 17 for a period of one year. Official sources said that the workshop was sponsored by CBR forum, Bangalore and was organized by PNF Dimapur. The NSDF would be a separate entity and would be registered. It would campaign for individual PWD enrollment. At present the five CBR NGOs cover around 1500 people with disabilities in Nagaland. The forum will soon start individual registration campaign. (UNI)
