Imphal: The State Government on Tuesday observed the 43rd Statehood Day at the Old secretariat Complex here.

The function was attended by the Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Commerce & Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Education and CAP & PD Minister M Okendro.

Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam said we should feel proud and happy in observing this day. Ever since we became a state within the Indian Union in 1972 and have been enjoying the status of being a state like the other states of India and getting the opportunity and liberty of developing our state in many aspects.

Citing this as just a beginning, he urged to take a new pledge that the people should engage themselves in building and bringing up the state as a self reliant and self sufficient one.

Gaikhangam appealed to the people to abstain from any kind of harmful element that could create any communal tension amongst the people and distort the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Targeting those individuals, gangs or underground organisations who are indulging in the kidnapping of innocent people for ransom, the Deputy CM warned that it will not bring any good to the state but rather pave way for a worst consequence.

He assured that the Government has an open-door for discussing and dissolving any problem with any organisation.

He appealed for the safe release of the kidnapped innocent people in the interest of the people and humanity. (UNI)
