SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has asked the respective Deputy Commissioners of all districts to arrange the “security bandobast” for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

Speaking to media persons after a short Cabinet meeting held at his residence, Dr Sangma urged people to defy the boycott call of militants and come out in large numbers to take part in the celebrations.

“We have seen in the past how people participated in the celebrations despite the boycott calls… be it in the (state) capital, district headquarters or blocks,” Dr Sangma told reporters adding that people’s participation reflects their enthusiasm and love for the country.

The State Cabinet held on Wednesday also finalized the name of the dignitaries and VIPs who will hoist the National flag and take the salute at the ceremonial parade on January 26 in various district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters and administrative units.

The Chief Minister informed reporters that the Government would request Governor Dr KK paul to take the salute at the state capital.
