Provincialisation of teacher’s service

SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association in Meghalaya (JACATAM) has expressed their satisfaction over the decision of the State Government to provincialise the services of the school teachers in the State.
“We have been informed that a circular has already been issued to various non-religious institutions on the plan of the State Government to provincialise the schools,” JACATAM publicity secretary Kular Khongjirem told newsmen after a ten member delegation of the organisation met Director of School Education Ambrose CH Marak here on Friday.
He said that the director along with some officials will be going to various States who have provincialised the services of the schools teachers to conduct a comparative study on the feasibility of this proposed exercise.
JACATAM publicity secretary informed that as per the director, the Government delegation will be leaving on Monday to the various States like Kerala, Goa, Odisha and Assam to know more about steps taken by these States to provincialise the service of school teachers.
While this proposal of provincialisation would take more than a year, he said that the Government has decided to release the salaries of the school teachers every month.
To achieve this objective, Khongjirem informed that the Government has release the salaries of the teachers under deficit pattern till January 2014 while at the same time, the salaries of the different categories of Adhoc teachers has been released till February.
“As per the director, the salaries of the school teacher under the non-plan Adhoc is still pending due to some financial constraints,” he said. JACATAM publicity secretary said that the director has assured that they would get back by March end to brief on the status of the proposed provincialisation.
With the Government positively responding to their demand, Khongjirem said that they have decided to postpone their meeting scheduled on February 29.
